Is your phone currently running on Android 8.0 Oreo ? If yes, you’re one of luckiest Android users right now. Surprised ? Well, Google’s Android Distribution Report till November 9, 2017 has confirmed that only 0.3% of the total Android Devices in the world is running Android 8.0 Oreo.
So, when Google has actually start sending the Android 8.1 Developer Preview to the Pixel 2 & a range of other Google devices, the 0.3% Figures Clearly indicate that how slow OEMs are to deliver the Latest OS even for their high-end devices. Low-end devices never get the update in most of the cases. So, as we can see in that chart, most of the devices are still on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Nougat does have some dominance in the list, but, even Lollipop has a higher percentage than it.
So, if we look at the other side of the game, Apple has even provided iOS 11 in the years old iPhone 5S. We think Google can also do this if they stop keeping it upto Pixel & Nexus Devices and open a Royalty Free gate for other OEMs to give their users the Latest OS possible till the hardware can handle it without any problem. Also, this should be mandatory by rule as if that’s not the case, other OEMs will not bother to give updates in all their devices. At least 3 Years should be a minimum limit just like Google did it in their Pixel devices.
So, what do you think ? Have you got Oreo yet or you’re still waiting or you’re completely hopeless ? Definitely let us know.
