Google Lens is a great app that allows its users to be their search companions in the real world. With the help of this app, you can copy text from what you have captured, make your homework easier, and can even translate live text to 100+ languages. But, many Android users in the past have been reporting certain issues while using it. These issues vary from the app launch error to the inability to translate text via the app.
Activate Google Lens Manually
In some cases, users have reported that the Lens app doesn’t launch on its own. You can resolve this issue by manually activating the Google Lens from Google Assistant. Follow these simple steps to achieve the same.
- Long-Press the Home Button to activate Google Assistant
- Tap on the compass icon in the bottom right corner of the screen to open Explore Tab
- Tap on the Lens icon to the left of the microphone icon at the bottom
- To manually activate Lens, use the Get Started if the app is unfigured.
How to Fix Google Lens Not Working?
1. Update Google Lens App from PlayStore
From the Google Playstore, this method involves updating the Lens App app to resolve and apply any bug fixes that have been released by Google. To update the app,
- Open the Google PlayStore App and search for Google Lens
- Tap on the icon. In front of the App icon If you see the Update Button, then click on it.
- If you see an Open Button in front of the App icon then, it means that your app has already been updated.
2. Check your Internet Connection
To interpret the text from photographs in your collection or photos you take, the Google Lens app requires an active internet connection. When you open the Translate portion of the program without the internet, you’ll see a ‘No connection’ error message. Make sure that your phone’s cellular data or Wi-Fi connection is working properly.
Check to see if you can use the internet with other programs as well. Another way to see if your app connects to the internet is by toggling the Airplane Mode. Here’s how to do it:
- Close the Lens app
- Turn your Airplane Mode off and on again, to see if the app connects to the internet now.
Additionally, if you have any type of data saver on, you should turn it off because the Google Lens app is not supported as long as Android Data Saver interferes with its functioning.
3. Force Stop
If the Google Lens app is stuck in an operation, you can try force closing the app. Sometimes, even when you close some applications, they may still keep working in the background in a suspended state, no matter how many times you close them. However, force-stopping an app will bring all front and background processes associated with that app to a complete halt, which is why this step is recommended if the Google Lens app is not working on Android.
In order to force stop the application and relaunch it:
- First, open the Settings and Go to Apps
- Choose Google Lens>Storage and click on the Force Stop.
- From the search widget or Google Photos restart the app.
4. Clear Lens Cache Files
Sometimes an Android app malfunctions and misbehaves due to the presence of a lot of cache files. To clear the cache data from the Lens app, follow these steps
- Long Press the Lens App and tap on App info and click on storage.
- The cache data associated with the Lens app will be displayed here.
- To clear all the cache files tap on Clear Data and select the Clear Cache option.
5. Check Appropriate App Permissions
Many users reported that the translate feature on Google Apps isn’t working. An immediate resolution of this issue is checking and providing appropriate app permissions. You can give proper app permissions to Google Lens app through the below steps
- From your app drawer long-press the Lens app.
- Click on the App info and tap on the App Permissions.
- Next, Turn on Permissions for the Camera, Microphone, and Storage.
6. Remove App Data from Lens APP
If the lens app on your smartphone is still creating issues after trying all the above steps, then try Removing the entire App Data. To do this, follow these easy steps
- Long press the Lens icon and tap on App info.
- Tap on Storage and click on the Clear Data.
- Choose Clear All Data.
